Before / after samples

Three anonymised, composite examples that show exactly what you receive: the rewritten text, plus a short note explaining why each change was made. Names, companies and numbers are invented; the problems and the fixes are the ones we apply every day.

1. Junior frontend developer, 1 year of experience

Frontend Developer — Kopli Studio (2025–2026)
- Developed responsive websites using React and Tailwind
- Fixed bugs and improved performance
- Worked with designers and backend team
- Participated in daily standups and sprint planning

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, Tailwind, Redux, Node.js, Express, MongoDB, Git, Figma, Jest, Agile, Scrum

After

SUMMARY
Frontend developer (1 year, React/TypeScript) at a 6-person agency. Shipped 4 client sites to production and owned performance work on the largest one. Looking for a frontend or full-stack role in a product team.

EXPERIENCE
Frontend Developer — Kopli Studio (2025–2026)
- Built 4 client websites (React, Next.js, Tailwind) from Figma designs to launch; two of them are still the client's main sales channel.
- Cut the Lighthouse performance score of the largest site from 41 to 89 by lazy-loading images, splitting bundles and removing two unused libraries.
- Closed ~50 bugs across projects; introduced Jest + Testing Library for the shared component set (first tests in the agency).
- Daily collaboration with 2 designers and a backend developer; wrote the handover docs clients now use.

SKILLS
Daily: React, TypeScript, Next.js, Tailwind, Git
Used in projects: Redux, Node.js/Express, MongoDB, Jest
Familiar: Figma
Why: the summary now says what kind of developer, how much experience, one proof, and the role wanted. Every bullet answers "what changed because of you?" (Lighthouse 41→89, 4 sites shipped, first tests). Skills split into three honest tiers instead of a 16-item list.

2. Bootcamp graduate, no professional experience

Before

OBJECTIVE
Recent bootcamp graduate seeking an entry-level developer position.

PROJECTS
- Todo App: A todo application built with React.
- Weather App: Shows the weather using an API.
- E-commerce site: Final project, full-stack MERN application with authentication and payments.

EDUCATION
Full-Stack Web Development Bootcamp, 2026
BA in History, 2022

EXPERIENCE
Waiter, Restaurante Marisol (2022–2025)

After

SUMMARY
Full-stack developer (JavaScript/React/Node) with three deployed projects and a background in customer-facing work. Strongest on the frontend; comfortable with REST APIs and MongoDB. Looking for a junior frontend or full-stack role.

PROJECTS
Shopfront — full-stack e-commerce (React, Node/Express, MongoDB, Stripe) · live: shopfront.example · github.com/…
- Auth with JWT and refresh tokens, product search, cart, Stripe Checkout.
- Hardest part: keeping cart state consistent between guest and logged-in users; solved with a server-side merge on login.
- 2,400 lines, 38 tests (Jest + Supertest), deployed on Render with CI on every push.

Weather Now — React + OpenWeather API · live · repo
- Geolocation, 5-day forecast, offline fallback with cached data; Lighthouse 96.

EDUCATION
Full-Stack Web Development Bootcamp (480 h), 2026 · BA in History, 2022

OTHER EXPERIENCE
Waiter, Restaurante Marisol (2022–2025) — 3 years in a 120-cover restaurant; trained 6 new staff. Used to pressure, feedback and fast communication.
Why: for a bootcamp graduate, projects are the work history, so each one gets what a job would get: stack, link, the hardest technical problem and numbers (tests, lines, Lighthouse). The to-do app was dropped: it hurts more than it helps. The restaurant job is kept, but reframed as what it proves.

3. Mid-level backend developer, 4 years

Before

Backend Developer — Fintra Solutions (2022–2026)
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of microservices in Java/Spring Boot
- Worked on the payment processing module
- Implemented unit tests and integration tests
- Participated in code reviews
- Helped onboard new team members

After

Backend Developer — Fintra Solutions (2022–2026)
- Owned 3 of the 11 payment microservices (Java 17, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kafka) handling ~40k transactions/day.
- Led the migration of the settlement service from a nightly batch to event-driven processing; settlement latency went from up to 24 h to under 2 minutes.
- Raised test coverage on owned services from 30% to 85% (JUnit, Testcontainers); on-call incidents for those services dropped from ~6/month to ~1.
- Reviewed most PRs in a team of 7; onboarded 4 developers with a setup guide that cut first-PR time from 2 weeks to 3 days.
Why: "responsible for" became ownership with scale (3 of 11 services, 40k tx/day). Each bullet has a before/after number. This is the section a hiring manager reads first; it now reads like the person who did the work, not like the job description.

Cover letter sample (excerpt)

Hi Marta,

You are hiring a backend developer to move Payflow's ledger from batch to streaming. I did exactly that at Fintra in 2025: the settlement service went from a nightly job to Kafka-driven processing, with latency down from hours to under two minutes and no double-postings in production since.

Three things from the posting that map to what I have done: [...]

I would be glad to walk you through the migration plan I used, including what I would do differently.

Best regards,

Every letter opens with the one thing the company is trying to do and the one thing in your history that proves you can do it. No "I am writing to express my interest".
